My name is Rafiou, and I'm a designer and artist based in Munich, Germany, with roots in Togo. As a multidimensional creator, I use a diverse range of tools in my work and constantly seek to learn new things to better understand different fields. I use a variety of tools in my creative process, including 3D programs, creative coding and drawing. Yet my favorite medium is drawing, especially with pens because they remind me of my childhood, are easily accessible and simple. I draw inspiration from pop culture and artists such as Tyler Okonma, who explore different media and forms in their work without limiting themselves to a particular field. By doing so, I aim to keep learning and expanding my possibilities. Through art, I seek to learn and simplify topics and change my view of understanding.
Basketball, heritage, and hip hop are recurring topics in my work because they are integral parts of my daily life. I'm also passionate about art culture, particularly through my involvement with Kollektiv Crèmbach. Our collective's mission is to create a museum for everyone in Munich through workshops, meetings, and community-driven ideas. We're committed to making art and culture accessible to all, regardless of their background or experience. By creating a welcoming and inclusive space, we hope to empower people to engage with and appreciate art in new and meaningful ways.
My long-term project, DAYINDAYOUT, is an artist diary that uses vector art and minimal shapes to create impactful visual statements. By simplifying subjects and exploring the relationship between simplicity and complexity, I aim to challenge me and the viewer's perception and give insights in my daily thought process. My goal with this project is to create a collection which can be purchased and seen by others in different media.
